Hero Exhibit

Hi everyone! I know it's been a very long time since I updated this blog, but a lot has been going on. Plus I created a Tumblr account a little while back and have been updating that instead. I'll try to keep up this blog too, but if you have Tumblr feel free to follow me there =)

In other news, I’m very proud to announce that I have a piece in the Hero exhibit at the Orange County Great Park opening tomorrow, January 5th! There will be an opening reception from 10am - 2pm and several of the artists will be in attendance, including yours truly! So if you’re in the neighborhood, drop by and say hi =) There are a lot of amazing artists showing in this exhibit and I feel very privileged to have a piece in among the greatness (and very scared and nervous!). See the attached flyer for a list of some of the artists showing and other details!

I decided to do a tribute to Miyazaki’s movie, “Howl’s Moving Castle”. My piece is titled “A Night’s Lodging” and is a cut paper illustration of the castle from the title.

This was my first time working in this medium, and there was a lot of learning involved as I was creating this. I really like it though and already have ideas for several more pieces using this method =) Sorry about the pictures - I took these right before I had to drop off the piece and was in rather a rush. I didn’t get a picture that was straight on (most are at slight angles, like the one above). Once I get this back at the end of the exhibit I’ll do a scan that will show the piece better. Here are a couple of more pics!

Hope to see some of you at the reception! =)

Thumbtack

Yikes I'm really behind on these now. Other work has been taking up most of my time =( Anyway, here's Day 12, a thumbtack!

Another easy pick from the book!

Number 8!

Still playing catch up. For those who were wondering how I'm coming up with these, I have this book - 642 Things to Draw - my roommate flips to a random page and points at a spot on the page and whatever it lands on is what I have to model for that day. Sometimes his finger lands on something relatively easy, like this beaker for day 8!

358 to go!

Playing a little catch up after all the crazy San Diego Comic Con just this past week. Here are the quick models from days 2-7!

A Lamborghini chainsaw!

My awesome pencil case holder thingy in the shape of a giant sharpener!

My green Mario Mushroom USB lamp =)

The topic for this one was "broken toy". So that's what a Rubik's cube looks like inside!

An overly starched T-shirt?? Okay I got lazy with this one >_<

One down, 364 left to go!

Hey everyone!

I just started a new "project" - to model one object a day for 365 days! They'll be simple objects to keep the project realistic (I have a lot of other work to do too) and mostly they'll just be models, though I may end up texturing a few of them =) I started yesterday but didn't get around to posting about it. I'll try to post them as I create them from now on though. Anyway, here's yesterday's - a cupcake!

Van-Hayes!

My big sister just got married! Both her and her husband are changing their last names so that it's a combination of both their last names, which becomes Van-Hayes. I did this little doodle for her =)

For the Van-Hayes!

Must Go Faster

It's been awhile since I posted anything, so here's something new! A couple of friends and I participate in weekly doodles base on a theme to try to get in more practice. This one was for the "Minimalist Movie Poster" theme =)

I'll add some more of the stuff I made for that doodle group, but thought I'd post this one for now. Enjoy! =)

Ladies of Sci Fi and Fantasy

A long time ago I started what I called a Ladies of Sci Fi and Fantasy drawing series to work on my 2D skills. I made one sketch and forgot all about it oops! So here I am trying to resurrect it again =)

That first sketch I did back in 07. Hermione Granger in her Yule Ball dress.
2nd sketch in the series, in 2011! Sam Carter in gear, WIP. Check back for the finished version later! =)
That's all for now! Thanks for looking! =)

Out with the Old! But not all of it...

Clearing out the old blog to prepare for its relaunch! There were some old stuff that I still like though, so I wanted to gather them in one post =)

First sketch in my "Someone Else on Sundays" series. Check back for more details later! =)
A little quick doodle for Inktober! The movie wasn't great, but I liked the world and the idea.
My first (and to date only) pumpkin carving! Me thinks it's time to carve another!
An assignment from my days in Animation Mentor. Bishop as the cast of Scrubs!
Another Animation Mentor assignment. Stu gathers up the Sun, Earth, and Moon!
First little sketch on my Nintendo DS =)
That's it for the old stuff. Now make way for the new stuff! =)
